Water Softeners and Whole House Systems

What a Difference a water softener system will make on your new home, life and health!
While moving into our new home, our family purchased a whole house system 6 years ago. We absolutely love it! During our water test/demo we realized that our tap water was HARD, loaded with CHLORAMINE, and was COSTING us money. We were promised through different studies and reports that we would be protecting our investment in our house, while enjoying the benefits to our skin, hair, clothing, and our appetites! Our promises were met! Everything changed after our water softener was installed.
Our hair and skin changed back to how it were when we lived in Colorado. We realized that our HARD tap water was adding to our DRY SKIN issues and to brittle, DAMAGED HAIR. Not only did we have to reduce our shampoos, hand soaps, detergents, and cleaning agents by 80%, we switched to natural soaps. We never liked natural soaps before but the clean, SOFT water allowed the natural soaps to perform as expected.

Install A Water Heater Timer To Save Energy

Most people are willing to do the little things to save energy and money, but all too often they just do not know what options are available to them. Well, if you are one of the millions of US homeowners that are using an electric storage tank water heater, one of these small things that can make a big impact is installing a timer to regulate when there is power to your water heater and save energy. With the high cost of energy these days, a little extra savings every month can add up to big savings on your budget.
The idea behind installing a timer stems from the inherent inefficiency in the design of a tank water heater. These models are great and do a fantastic job as evidenced by their continuing popularity to this very day. They are affordable and reliable, lasting for many years. But the design of these units leaves a bit to be desired in terms of energy efficiency. The way a conventional tank storage unit works is that water enters a large tank and gets heated by two elements. There is one element up top and one at the bottom of the tank.

Drain Cleaning - When to Call a Plumber

First time home owners or tenants often do not put drain cleaning on our list of regular household chores. Laundry, vacuuming, dusting and disinfecting are (thankfully) a part of your weekly, if not daily, schedule, but have you ever stopped to consider the most used areas in the home? From tubs to kitchen sinks, drains are everywhere.
Lets start with your bathroom. It's used day after day, with shampoo to wash your hair, shower gel, and to bath the children. This can lead to more unexpected (and sometimes disgusting) amounts of accumulation in the drain. If you look down when you are in the shower and you're standing one or two inches of water, or release the tub water only to see it drain more slowly, you know it's time to clean the drainage.
As for your kitchen. Your dog is not the only one who sees your leftovers after a meal. They are the leftovers of veggies, pasta, meat, and who knows what else that will inevitably clog your sink.

Getting to Grips With Hard Water

People who already enjoy the benefits of soft water often forget how lucky they are. They take for granted frothy soap lathers, smooth clothing, and ultra soft towels.
Perhaps people who live in hard water areas have got used to the disadvantages and are not aware of what they are missing. Hard water means scale building up around taps, in sinks, chrome pipes and shiny surfaces. Meaning additional washing powder or soap is needed to clean properly. Hard water is tougher on the skin, hair and clothing. It may form a scum deposit on your hot beverages and ugly bath rings!
Most of the damage caused by hard water however is unseen. Limescale deposits will form on elements, pipes and boilers. These deposits reduce the efficiency of heating elements as more power is needed to heat through the scale. This will mean higher electricity bills. The damage caused to the element means that it will need replacing if not de-calcified regularly further adding to parts and maintenance costs.
